Calcium Pyrophosphate is most commonly utilized as a mild abrasive agent in formulation of toothpaste. It is an insoluble calcium salt having chemical formula Ca2O7P2 with molar mass of 254.053 g/mol. With white colored powdery appearance, this compound has very high melting point of 1,353 degrees Celsius. It shows good solubility in hydrochloric and nitric acids. Calcium Pyrophosphate can be synthesized by reaction of sodium pyrophosphate with calcium nitrate under controlled temperature & pH conditions. It is an inorganic compound having ability to accept 7 hydrogen bonds during chemical reaction.
