Gabapentine is prescribed for treatment of neuropathic pain, partial seizures, and restless leg syndrome. With chemical formula C9H17NO2 and molar mass of 171.237 g/mol, it works as an inhibitor of alpha 2 subunits that contain voltage-dependent calcium channels. This compound is also known to possess anticonvulsant, analgesic, and anxiolytic properties. It is a type of gabapentinoid which rapidly gets absorbed by intestines after ingestion. Gabapentine gets transported to central nervous system by LAT1 for having low lipophilicity. It does not significantly gets metabolized and has very low protein binding ability of only 3% with bioavailability range of 27 to 60%.
